Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human.

Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.

When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive. . .and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

I haven't read a book where the romance takes a back seat to the story in a long time. As a matter of fact, I can pretty much say straight out that there's almost no romance at all. But fear not my fellow hopeless romantics, for I, the most hopeless of us all, thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I started it last night an read it in class all day today so I could write this review. Its set in a world where monsters from horror movies exist and the outcome of World War II was effected by Chupacabra informants. Kali, a normal abet antisocial teenager girl -at least half the time- turns into a demon hunter every other day. She teams up with the school "slut"/pychic and the head cheerleader after she contracts a deadly chupacabra parasite that's certain to kill her.

When they're done fighting off monsters mysteries begin to unravel and Kali's past comes into question and just who the mysterious voice in her head is. I was on the edge of my seat up until the end waiting to figure out what would happen next. Even though the end was my type of happy ending (although a happy ending none the less), I still really liked it.

Kali's a strong character and is set off my her cohorts throughout the novel. Although I didn't particularly like   the writing and the explanations, I got through it. You have to read closely to get everything out of the book but it's seriously worth it. It's an awesome read that's going to make you wish you lived in a world full of zombies and mad scientists too.
