New York Times best-selling author Claudia Gray delivers adventure, dark paranormal suspense, alluring romance, and a truly surprise ending, set against the opulent backdrop of the Titanic's first — and last — voyage.

After having just watched Titanic with my little sister for the umpteenth time, I'm was immediately drawn by this book. A love story on the titanic with paranormal forces is pretty much the best thing ever. Next time I see it, it's coming home with me. I mean, the trailer's pretty cool too, despite the narrator sounding like my dad...

Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.
As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.
I remember reading the first book last year during english class. We were playing bingo and I won some skittles as well as the honor of being the first person to win that semester, needless to say, Body Finders was amazing. So when I picked up Desires of the Dead I was expecting some awesome stuff, and awesome stuff I did find.

Before I begin, let me say that I love Jay. I could tell there was some potential with Rafe going on, but I love Jay to much to even consider it. When I first started reading it, I thought it was going to turn out like Blue Moon, by Alyson Noel, a book that I hated to the core. Some guys becomes friends with her boyfriends and messes up her life, blah, blah, blah... thankfully, it was nothing like that, well, it sorta was, but it wasn't bad.

The book is filled with just the right amount of romance and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. I seriously had a hard time putting the book down when I got into the thick of it. However, there were some major parts of the book that I didn't like. Even though I feel like I know Violet really well, and Jay and Chelsea almost just as well, there's very little space in this novel to expand on other characters. Sure there's Mike and Megan, and their dad and everyone else in their group, but I felt like they were just there, their characters weren't as strong as I would have liked them to be. Also, I had a hard time believing her parents would be that chill. I mean, I know this is fiction, but really? I think out of all the new characters introduced in the book, Sara Priest is the most interesting and seems to have the most potential in the forth coming books.

Overall, even though I really liked the new mystery and romance between Jay and Violet, it didn't exceed my expectations nor it didn't disappoint them either. Despite its flaws, it's a great read and worthy sequel of The Body Finder.

Library Monday (1)

March 19, 2012

As a dirt poor teenager, I can't afford to buy books whenever I want. I wish I could, but I can't.

However there are perks to living next to a nice library, and I plan to take advantage of it as much as humanly possible. It's big and has four stories full of books. Granted, about 1/5 of the books there are in Chinese, but I'm not complaining.

Every Monday it's become a tradition of mine to go to the library and get my books for the week. Even though I get picked up there, I think the librarians are tired of my checking stuff out everyday so I'm trying to keep my visits to a minimum.

Anywho, I figured that I'll keep doing to "In the Mailbox" segments, but my Library Mondays seem a lot more fun and frequent.
Not only with they include books that I check out, but any audiobooks, and albums as well.

So, here it goes! :)

In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. The city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Now back in the Brotherhood - and unrecognisable as the vampire leader he once was - Tohrment is physically emaciated and heartbroken beyond despair. When he begins to see his beloved in his dreams - trapped in a cold, isolating netherworld - Tohr turns to a self-serving fallen angel in hopes of saving the one he has lost. When he's told he must learn to love another to free his former mate, Tohr knows they are all doomed . . .
Except then a female with a shadowed history begins to get through to him. Against the backdrop of the raging war with the lessers, and with a new clan of vampires vying for the Blind King's throne, Tohr struggles between the buried past, and a very hot, passion-filled future . . . but can his heart let go and set all of them free?
I cannot wait for this book.
I remember reading the first in the series a couple years ago, fully expecting to hate it, but no, it was amazing. As weird as some of the stuff is, I keep coming back for the characters. I know it's weird, but Butch is by far my favorite. He's adorable and really funny, plus the fact that he cares so much about Vishious is just plain cute! After Butch, it's definitely Zadist, then Wrath, then Vishious, then Rhage, then Torhment, then John, the Phury. *swoon* They're all so awesome...

But as much as I love the whole Blay and Quinn thing going on, I'm happy that she's waiting a while before she decides to give them their own book. That being said, I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy into the whole No One / Torhment thing. I really liked Wellsie and I can't imagine him being with anyone else, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see! x3
Plus seriously, these covers aren't getting as embarrassing to bring out in public now.

Can't wait, here's the first couple pages of the new book! Read at your own risk...

Review: Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

Hardcover, 422 pages
Published April 22nd 2008 by Viking Juvenile

Rating: 3 Glasses

Ruby, where is your mother?
Ruby knows that the game is up. For the past few months, she's been on her own in the yellow house, managing somehow, knowing that her mother will probably never return.
That's how she comes to live with Cora, the sister she hasn't seen in ten years, and Cora's husband Jamie, whose down-to-earth demeanor makes it hard for Ruby to believe he founded the most popular networking Web site around. A luxurious house, fancy private school, a new wardrobe, the promise of college and a future; it's a dream come true. So why is Ruby such a reluctant Cinderella, wary and defensive? And why is Nate, the genial boy next door with some secrets of his own, unable to accept the help that Ruby is just learning to give?
Best-selling author Sarah Dessen explores the heart of a gutsy, complex girl dealing with unforeseen circumstances and learning to trust again.

I used to live near a book store. We moved a little over a year ago and the only thing going for my new house was its location, just a block away from Borders. But as you might be aware of, they've all been closed. It hurts to walk past that empty book store now.

Anyways, so what does that have to do with this book? Well, when they were having their big blowout clearance sale, I was able to buy it for the fabulous price of $2 dollars! It was such a bittersweet steal that I kept putting off reading it until last week, when I had to take the CASHEE, or the high school exit examine. I heard that it's sometimes so ridiculously easy that you have a monumental amount of time to just read. After hearing that, I brought this book. I'd have to read it sooner or later.

It's about a girl named Ruby who gets sent to live with her sister after her mother abandons her. At first it was really frustrating for me because you have to read through her flashbacks and thoughts of her mother. The book doesn't start picking up pace until a little after that when she starts going to school.

Now I know Sarah Dessen normally write the gushy cute romances that play along with the main heroine's route to the discovery of finding herself, so I can almost confidently say this is one of those stories. Throughout the book you become aware of her insecurities and you come to grow with her. She feels like a real person and someone who would actually exist in a real life, a feat that Dessen has always managed to achieve in all the books that I've read of hers. However, that being said, I think the amount of actual romance in this book is not enough to make it a "teen romance novel". Nick, who is quite frankly, the all american perfectly hot boy next door with hidden secrets stereotype, plays a large role in the story, but his romance with Ruby is second to the story that is her life.

It seemed like they only really dated for a chapter, and the rest of it was just bonding and friendship type stuff going on. Although, I do have to admit that Jamie and Cora make up for it (well, mostly Jamie). As Ruby's sister and brother-in-law, they are her backbone for most of the story. Cora's stiffed lip and Jamie's the perfect husband with a perfect family. My only problem with them, is that sometimes they almost seem to perfect, like there's no way those people could actually exist, at least in my world.

Although I did have a problem with the lack of romance and sometimes the plot, which for me, was a bit boring, I think it dealt with the serious topic really well and provided a great past time for the endless hours I spent after taking the exit exam. So yeah, go read it.

Review: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

March 13, 2012

Hardcover, 438 pages
Published October 4th 2011 by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing

Glasses: 4.3

Fitzpatrick delivers the breathtaking third book to the "New York Times"-bestselling Hush, Hush saga. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in each other, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for--and their love--forever.
So I know it seems I've been reading a lot of Fitzpatrick, but I swear, once the last book comes out I'll be finished with it. It's just that Patch is amazing. I went to Barnes and Nobles the other day and I say Hush, Hush on display in the recommended section. Underneath it in the little comment box they have, it said, "Patch is the badass Edward wishes he could be." And yeah, I totally get that. He has that whole cool dark, mysterious bad boy thing going on that just so.... so..... *swoon*. See, I lack the words to describe my feelings for Patch right now, so I'll just move on.

I have to admit I hated the beginning of the book. You quickly learn that Nora has lost all of her memory since the last book. Everything that's ever happened to her that includes Patch, fallen angels, or nephilim (did I spell that right?), is completely wiped out. I was teetering on the edge of insanity and frustration to get to the end of it, but as you can see I did. And I have to say the ending really redeems itself. It's starts off a bit oddly but gains its ground quickly. Eventually, I thought it was kinda cool that I knew more than Nora did (although, that normally happens anyways, she's not that bright of a character). There are still those moments when I couldn't help but groan at the situations she gets herself into, but that's what made this book so great. With Hank and Scott bother returning the stakes are higher and mystery is deeper. I really got into it and voiced my frustration during the good times and the bad times.

With the ending they give I can't wait to see how Nora and Patch's relationship plays out in the last book. Finale better be awesome or I'm going to be very upset.
